Mothers Love: Responsibility or Choice ?
Why Not Fathers?
Well, the first thing that popped into my mind as I thought of this was - why not fathers love ?
A simple answer there, in a country where if not us youth, then atleast majority of the people are bound to have stereotypes on women, a mothers life become much more harder.
And the case just hardens in the case of working mothers.
So even when life is tough for them, don't they try their level best to foster us with their love ?
The unspoken debate remains, is it responsibility or choice ?
Do we deserve it, or is it a god given blessing, we can maybe taken for granted ?
Why Ask This at All?
The second was, why ask the question at all ?
Simply put it, this was not meant for the masses, but for those specific people, who take parental love for granted and don't treat them with the care their deserve.
But much more for the parents, to know that it is in no way a moral obligation but a choice to be look after their kids.
And this is something we must understand.
The next time we complain to our mothers for not cooking the food we like, or giving us chores, do remember all the infant nurturing she did to us, but also do remember that they doing things for you or me is in no way a responsibility. 🍼
Do We Love Them the Same?
We all say we love our mothers, I am sure we do, but the question to be asked is whether we do so in the same amount as them ?
Religious texts almost always point out the son/daughter to parents dharma(duty).
But almost nothing is spoken on the other side of this relation, except the Bible which tells that parents must teach about God to their children (nothing on love as a choice or responsibility yet).
Responsibility or Choice?
Its fairly logical to conclude that its a choice and not a responsibility.
You might argue what about the future generations if parents stop caring for their children ?
Well, first of all, no parent is ever going to completely abandon their child unless they do something so gruesome it is unable to handle.
Secondly, our parents too contribute to this societies development.
The next argument could be, isn't it natural ? Naturals for parents to take care of their children on basis of evolution.
I just got one question back - isn't it also our responsibility to take care of them back ?
Yet what about of the thousands of abuses faced by senior citizens every year, what about those rare but real instances where the elderly are abandoned to old age homes simply because its more tough to take care of them ? 😞
While in nature, these such filial relations are not seen except in high IQ animals like chimpanzee (hmm, seems quite close to humans ?).
Other animals, mostly predators do indeed not show this behavior.
But are we more related to a high IQ social being or a instinct relying ruthless predator ?
A Simple Reminder
This post is meant as nothing more, but a subtle remainder to go out to your parents and show them care.
It was not easy for them to take care of us, and it was never a responsibility.
It was their choice, and we must give back to them. 🙏
Ratan Tata famously said we must give back to the society.
But I believe before all that, lets give back to our parents, without whom we would not be here.
So, stop reading, go and give your mom's and dad's a huge hug and a pretty smile 😁
A Personal Tribute
I am in no way qualified to enforce these views upon you readers, these are merely my personal opinions.
But beyond all, this is a tribute to my mother, who taught me much more than anyone else.
The person who made me who I am.
A big Thank You to her. ❤️
