The Greatest Fight

It has been a long standing axion, that no human being is perfectly good or perfectly evil. Given the exact replica of the situations one has been through, any other may develop a starkingly similar personality. A criminal never things he is one, but rather strongly believes that what he did was for the right cause. A sexual assaulter, per se, in many a cases has almost no negative self-contemplation or self-sanctions. The psychology of a criminal minds, as much impure and evil, is equally intriguing. Equally intriguing because the source of all crime, is essentially behaviour, and behaviour is must that is given to a person by a society, at large. Figuring out, what's wrong with our system and why, can go a long way is keeping the criminal rates low.

Crimes I beleive can be classified into mainly two - personality linked and situational linked. Situational linked is a easier one to explain - in essence, if a hungry father were to rob a store for his childrens daily meals - would you blame him ? Classic situation crimes are caused due to economic instabilities, mortgages etc etc. Nothing related much to the "personal satisfaction of the criminal". Even a common "cotation" can be brought into this. 

Then we have the personality linked ones. The rapist, murderers and sadistic killers(though these are rare in India). These people criminalized for pleasure, because of a fundamental flaw in their belief system. In a personal opinion, any act that can hurt or demean another human being without a just cause and reason, can be considered a crime. This definition paves way from stealing another person's pen which he likes a lot to killing a person because the killer does not like him. These types of acts have characteristics. Those being -

1. Cause

2. Internal measures to prevent 

3. Primary Action

4. Secondary Action

Cause is what causes the trigger point, what makes the criminal feel to need to do what he/she just did. Internal measures to prevent, is that title of this post THE GREATEST FIGHT. Dear readers, at the end of the day criminals have an internal conflict regarding what they were doing. A single handed fight against the evil within. And they have lost. Every one of us has this, every time we think we are doing something wrong. Our instincts tell us it's wrong, yet we still pursue it. This fight is needless to say, present in criminals too, who are humans. After the failure of the fight and the uptake realisation for the need to criminalize, these people take primary action. A lesser criminalised activity - killing animals, watching internet videos on what they want etc etc. Finally, when the urge is beyond control, the secondary action - a crime has occured.

Assuming this model of criminology, the only step in which society and personality matters is the fight within us. Causes and triggers flood this world we can do anything about it. But we can fight them back. 

Not all journeys are easy to sail, sometimes you got to sacrifice the temporary pleasures for the long term happiness. "Criminals are not born, they are made" - Made by careless personalities who knew they were doing wrong, yet did nothing to correct them. I emphasize I did not say made by the society. The question of whether criminals are made by society of not - I dont know, I don't think anyone does.

But one think I know, we should always win that fight with our evil inside. Never let it out and always have our ethics with us.
