Expectation: The Root Cause Of Misery
Once my friend told me, "Don't expect, for with expectation comes pain". And until now, I disregarded it as useless and not at all philosophical. But as I pondered over it now, the most clears and the depth of the quote arises. If people don't expect, then they will not be able to predict future and thus will put in the effort not for the future but for the task in itself. Hence, whatever be the result they will be happy.
On the other hand a person who expects will get misery. People always tend to overestimate and hence contentment will never come. This is predominantly seen in the life of teenagers. We expect a lot from people, school and parents. But in these expectations we forget that we must work to achieve them. People behave the way we behave towards them; results depend on the work one puts in and parents can do only as much as we allow them to.
When people remove all expectations - they will deprive themself from thinking about others and will think about themself. As the famous saying goes, " Powerful is the man, whose emotions are controlled". Controlling expectations will control one's emotion and thus that one will make decisions based on prudence. In essence, that decision will be great.
However one may argue, life is a one man's game. As Shakespeare truly said in his peom "All the worlds a stage" - we are but players doing our part. In the end, we exist as one not as whole. That does not mean we care just about ourself, but within our minds there must be a realisation that in life it is excrutiatingly difficult to find people who actually care about you. Leave that though, and focus on yourself, and work for yourself. One must unconditionally love oneself.
Teenagers, leave your thoughts about what others think. But enchace your ears to hear deep within yourself. What does the mind talk with the soul- that is your destiny. Follow it, don't expect, and arise awaken. Fear not and don't expect.
